Hoofbeats

May 2022

P.O. Box 1326, Twain Harte, CA 95383

This has been a busy time for Twain Harte Horsemen members. The end of April we hosted our annual Top Hand Ride at Peoria Flat. We had several riders all vying to win the beautiful buckle donated by Maggi and Wes Wittman. It was won by Cheryl Godfrey. She had so much fun that she is on track to become one of our newest members!

Next came the Tuolumne County Sheriffs Posse’s Mother Lode Roundup Parade and Rodeo. We had a nice showing of riders at the parade. The participants, their horses and tack were all looking great! Everyone put a lot of effort into cleaning tack and horses, so we looked really great going down the parade route! After the parade we had a very nice BBQ lunch. The club provided hamburgers, polish sausages (cooked by Roy Smith) and all the fixings. Members contributed yummy side dishes, fruit and desserts. It was a good time to socialize and visit with members, friends and family.

We have a High Ride planning meeting on May 11 at 6 pm at Pizza Plus in Jamestown. Come help in planning our biggest fund raiser. Also coming up in the next few weeks is a work day at Center Camp on May 14 and the New Hogan Ride led by Diana Moreci May 21. The Spring Barnyard Sale has been moved from May 27-28 to June 10-11, taking the place of the Drill Team Clinic.

Hope you all have a wonderful spring and get lots of rides on your favorite ponies!

Happy Trails!

2022 Motherlode Roundup Parade and Rodeo

Twain Harte Horsemen wants to thank the 10 THH riders who turned out for the Motherlode Roundup Parade on Saturday May 7.

A special shoutout to Roy Smith for cooking lunch and feeding about 25 people.

And most importantly, give a big hand to Kris Jordan who showed up at 7 a.m. and was the on-the-ground groom. She helped riders at the parking lot and at the staging grounds, running back and forth to pick up jackets and supply everyone with donuts.

Congratulations to our
2022 Rodeo Queens

At left is 2022 Motherlode Roundup Queen Kaitlyn Rumsey, 20, of Sonora. She currently attends Modesto Junior College as an animal science major. She hopes to transfer to UC Davis to pursue a career in equine veterinary services. In addition to working full time, she is a board member for Back Country Horsemen Mid Valley and helps organize events for the organization.

On the right is 2022 La Grange Rodeo Queen Hannah Castaneda, 17, of Sonora. She is currently a senior at Sonora High School and is a dual enrollment student to get a head start on college classes. After she graduates, she plans to continue studying at Modesto Junior College pursuing a degree in agricultural business and animal science with the goal to eventually start a business in artificial insemination specifically for cattle.

Both winners are members of the Twain Harte Horsemen.

The Top Hand Ride at Peoria Flat

Some 18 riders participated in the Top Hand ride on April 30. It was perfect weather and all riders enjoyed the three hour loop. Kris Jordon, left, presents the Top Hand buckle to top hand winner Cheryl Godfrey who is applying for membership. Welcome Cheryl!
